Since the NBA season is officially over, (five time champs, go Spurs, go!) the sports world is shifting it’s focus from San Antonio and turning it’s sights to Brazil. In case you haven’t turned on your TV, been online, or set foot in a local bar, I’ll let you in on a little secret: THE WORLD CUP IS ON! It’s the latest good-natured excuse to put on your war paint and indulge in some healthy competition and rivalry. (sounds like my Monday nights when I’m watching RuPaul’s Drag Race..)
Adidas — being one of the official partners for the FIFA World Cup this year — wants to keep you in the groove by dropping their latest (and second!) collab with Brazilian label The Farm Company. Bright, bold, and in-your-face patterns are what you can expect from this collection that’s sure to fly off the shelves and sell out online. (I need EVERYTHING in the 5th picture, can someone help me out with that? 🙂 ) Make sure you get yours — the collab drops July 1st!

I just love it when Sports and Fashion collide!
The NFL, in conjunction with mega-retailer Bloomingdales and the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) have teamed up to create one-of-a-kind helmets to celebrate Super Bowl XLVIII. The bedazzled, feathered and studded pieces from 48 design houses are up for auction, and it’s for a great cause. 100% of the proceeds will go to the NFL Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports team charities and provides youth assistance in multiple communities. Sounds like a win-win!
Here’s a few of my favorites!
To see all 48 helmets and bid on your winning piece before the auction ends on Feb 4, go to NFL.COM/SUPERBOWLHELMETS!
Photographer Karim Sadli captured Ms. Badu for Purple Magazine. She was draped in Givenchy from 2008 – 2014.
Just breathe it all in.
This chica with style definitely packs a punch…check out the many looks of the 22-year-old Toronto native SCHENELLE DIAS!
THE JUNQUI: Describe your style!
SCHENELLE DIAS: I would describe my style as versatile and care free. I don’t like to think too much or too ahead about my outfit, but when it’s time to get ready, I just know what to wear.
THE JUNQUI: What influences your looks for each day?
SCHENELLE DIAS: Everyday is different, depending on how I feel and how accessible my outfit will be. Old Chanel and Versace mixed together is my favorite. I love the bold and over-accessorized look!
THE JUNQUI: What kind of music/music artist are you vibing to right now?
SCHENELLE DIAS: I will forever only listen to old school Hip-hop. That’s where my heart is. I truly believe Tupac is part of my soul, and helps me with day to day situations.
THE JUNQUI: What’s the one thing you couldn’t live without / the one thing that you could never wear?
Mother Nature has made it clear: we’ve been spoiled with beautiful spring-like weather for far too long. The reality is, Fall is here people! Even though some of us might miss being able to venture out the door without a jacket, I, for one, do not. I’m one of those weird people who basks in the perfect medium that is Autumn. Sure, it may be a little brisk, but the sheer joy I get from seeing the leaves change colors, feeling the crispness in the air, and smelling the holiday scents (Pumpkin! Cinnamon! Pinecone! Did I say pumpkin??) makes my smile. And of course, my absolute favorite part of all: Fall Style! Here is an example of an outfit that I put together that you can definitely mix and match with other pieces in your closet.
You can’t go wrong with a quilted jacket…but did you check the zipper details along the arms? This one is especially cool, because you can make it into a 3/4 sleeve, for those times you want to wear your extra-long gloves, or you want your second layer sleeves to show a little more.
This cool cardigan combines my faves – heather grey color, long sleeves, and unexpected details like the off center zipper and the asymmetrical front hem. A perfect layering piece underneath a short jacket, or wear it alone with a metallic belt for a quick dash out the door for a night out. (and SURPRISE! it’s a men’s cardi!)
When you think of an animal print, usually leopard comes to mind…but zebras need love too! Represent with this sweatshirt-style top that you can wear with leggings, jeans, or denim shorts with thick tights. You can leave it out, or do a Parisian-style half-tuck. And since the palette is black and white, there are no limits to the color you can wear on the bottom.
If you want to keep the look focused on the printed top, nothing is more sleek (but not at all BORING) like a pair of black pants with a bit of sheen. A versatile go-to, you can pair it with a dressy top and pumps…or let our your inner rocker with a distressed band tee and embellished ankle booties.
An ensemble isn’t complete without haute accessories! I think everyone looks good in gold, and you can’t go wrong with a pair of classic hoops and multi-finger rings. If you are going to be out-and-about, you CAN look cute and not sacrifice comfort…a pair of motorcycle jacket-inspired low boots add visual interest, but won’t distract from your overall look. (you know how you can look at a girl and KNOW she isn’t comfortable and OBVIOUSLY can’t walk in her enormously high shoes? Yeah, that won’t be you.) Top it all off with a knit hat that’s anything but blah thanks to gold studs, and a bold burgundy lip to counter the all the monochrome.
Embrace the start of Fall Fashion…and may the STYLE be with you!
Agree or disagree?
Rick Owens went against every runway manual out there by not having a single professional model in his Spring 2014 show. His Paris RTW collection was highlighted by the fact that the females in his show weren’t just strolling — they were stepping down the catwalk.
If you went to an HBCU or are familiar with fraternities and sororities, Stepping is as common as the greek letters themselves. Just like the roots of traditional dancing, Stepping is used to convey raw feelings while simultaneously evoking emotion from the onlookers. Unlike Cheerleading (it’s sunshiny, happy-go-lucky cousin who has televised national competitions every year), Stepping is an art form that isn’t commonly known to the public. To fuse that distinct type of dance with a Parisian fashion show was a big risk (not to mention none of those powerful women were under a size 6) with an even bigger payoff; Now everyone around the world can be witness to a high profile fashion show that displays a different kind of “beauty”, one that exudes confidence, intensity and power. By having the focus on the go-against-the-grain experience (highlighted by the minimalist/Star Trek feel of the actual clothing) Rick Owens challenged the notion of conventional allure and put the art of stepping in the forefront. I, for one, can’t wait to see who follows suit.
The Blonds are a cult favorite among famous names , i.e. the Rihannas, Beyonces, and Lady Gagas of the world. Their looks are usually featured in music videos, cosmetic ads, and most notoriously in sold out concerts. The bedazzled, bejeweled and be-spiked creations conjured by the dynamic duo known as The Blonds are not for mere earthlings. During this past NYFW, they showcased their love for all things Barbarella, Space Age, and Tweety Bird (“The Original Blonde”) with their Spring 2014 collection. Resembling the aftermath of an outer space/glam-couture/rave party hosted by Mr. Spock, Grace Jones and LeeLoo (from The Fifth Element), it’s safe to say the Mother Ship has definitely landed. I don’t know about you, but beam me up!

Yes, July 17th, 2012 has finally came and passed and Frank Ocean’s Debut studio album “Channel Orange” under Def Jam has finally been unleashed. Simply Frank Ocean in the last couple days has given fans the desire to hear the outstanding talent that he exemplifies on this album. After the last week of his pre-leaked album release Frank Ocean’s debut album has already placed him at opening week at #2 with 131,000 digital sales. I feel since only digital sales brought him to land in#2 spot, could you imagine how much his CD will sell. If anything Frank Ocean has another week ahead of him of holding a spot in stardom. The spot that he deserved threw out his debut career. This album “Channel Orange” brings a vibe of Jazz & R&B and Pop, something Unique of Frank Ocean’s taste. He shows a similarity between a sensational rhythm that Jill Scott would express in her music, and touches it off with a little bit of himself truly.
The spot that Frank Ocean is holding currently, just proved that you shouldn’t lose your faith in your favorite entertainer/performer just because his sexual orientation has changed over the time. Frank Ocean might have change his love life, but there is a path he kept on going down and that was the road to fame. Ocean during his opening week had given him some competition with such artist such as Chris Brown and his new album “Fortune” which only beat out Frank by a little of 4,000 in digital sales in the previous week and Justin Bieber and his album “Believe”. Although Frank Ocean has just begun to accept everything coming his way, Ocean still deserves his praise.
So Check out Ocean’s new album “Channel Orange” and buy it in stores or on I tunes now.
