Who knew getting caged in was the best way to stand out?
CHROMAT is a brand that is clearly not for the faint of heart. The marriage of Victorian-era boning and avant-garde patterns are a combo that reminds me of The Fifth Element. LeeLoo would rock these in an End-of-the-World minute. (with or without Korben Dallas!)
Creator Becca McCharen uses her architectural background to draw up some sleek futuristic styles that have been worn on tour by Nicki Minaj, Madonna, and Queen Bey, just to name a few.
For her Mathletes collection, you can see the influence of all things sports-related, but I also get a big dose of “rocker-grunge girl lead vocalist that lives in New York and Tokyo” vibe permeating through those straps. (or maybe that’s just me?)
If you’re looking for some bold and edgy looks that you just KNOW you aren’t going to see on everyone else? All lines lead to CHROMAT.
Pairing graphic patterns and bold color choices reminiscent of African wax prints, she takes relatively common silhouettes (i.e. a classic button up shirt, leggings, a romper) and revitalizes them in a way that screams SUMMER! (or at least respectfully declares it. Loudly.)
I’m in chromatic love with all of them! However, if I had to pick a favorite, I would veer towards the Winie print. You know, the one that looks like a composition notebook. Not only is it black and white (my usual color combo go-to’s), but it’s a definite nod to grammar school nostalgia. Now you can relive the innocent good ol’ days. But without the braces.
Since the NBA season is officially over, (five time champs, go Spurs, go!) the sports world is shifting it’s focus from San Antonio and turning it’s sights to Brazil. In case you haven’t turned on your TV, been online, or set foot in a local bar, I’ll let you in on a little secret: THE WORLD CUP IS ON! It’s the latest good-natured excuse to put on your war paint and indulge in some healthy competition and rivalry. (sounds like my Monday nights when I’m watching RuPaul’s Drag Race..)
Adidas — being one of the official partners for the FIFA World Cup this year — wants to keep you in the groove by dropping their latest (and second!) collab with Brazilian label The Farm Company. Bright, bold, and in-your-face patterns are what you can expect from this collection that’s sure to fly off the shelves and sell out online. (I need EVERYTHING in the 5th picture, can someone help me out with that? 🙂 ) Make sure you get yours — the collab drops July 1st!
I live for American Horror Story: Coven as much as the next witch trying to conquer the Seven Wonders. But no one can conjure more supernatural magic on stage, screen and music than the almighty Diana Ross. Served Fresh captured this wonderfully with their latest addition, “Reign Supreme”.
Can’t wait get a hold of this! Check out the rest of the hot goods from Served Fresh:

I just love it when Sports and Fashion collide!
The NFL, in conjunction with mega-retailer Bloomingdales and the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) have teamed up to create one-of-a-kind helmets to celebrate Super Bowl XLVIII. The bedazzled, feathered and studded pieces from 48 design houses are up for auction, and it’s for a great cause. 100% of the proceeds will go to the NFL Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports team charities and provides youth assistance in multiple communities. Sounds like a win-win!
Here’s a few of my favorites!
To see all 48 helmets and bid on your winning piece before the auction ends on Feb 4, go to NFL.COM/SUPERBOWLHELMETS!
Photographer Karim Sadli captured Ms. Badu for Purple Magazine. She was draped in Givenchy from 2008 – 2014.
Just breathe it all in.
I can admit it. I grew up thinking that high school was going to be just like Saved by The Bell, couldn’t wait on Friday night to watch 2 hours of TGIF, and could recite the whole theme song from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (And I still can, by the way!) And chances are, if you agreed with one or all 3 things, then you’re an 80s baby. If you want to commemorate being born in one of the best decades EVER, then zip up your windbreaker, lace up your LA Gears, and feast your eyes on this:
Clothing brand Young & Gifted shows their love for the classic sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, while representing for all the 80s Babies with this bold and retro design.
Whether you live and breathe throwback style (complete with a high-top fade) or you’re just a lover of all things from back in the day, you can’t go wrong with a chill-out piece like this!

On July 14th, clothing label A.P.C. is dropping a collab capsule collection with Kanye (say that 3 times fast!) Mr. West was more than eager to soak up all the tricks of the fashion trade from A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou, but the head of the French clothing label admits — prior to the upcoming marriage of the fashion minds — that he had no idea who Kanye was, let alone what he did for a living…sacre bleu!
“Over two years ago, a visitor to the A.P.C. studio was announced to me as ‘KENNY.’ … The guy talks, talks and talks and I was having a good time listening. He had nice manners and spoke about losing his mother in a surgery accident, about losing his girlfriend too, and about how difficult doing the right thing in fashion was. After a while, I was curious to know what this gentleman was currently doing in his life. I simply asked him: ‘May I know what your trade is, sir?’ He took his shades down, so that finally I could see his eyes, and answered me: ‘I am a hip hop artist.’ “
“At some point my crew informed me that his name was West, Kanye West. I introduced him to the A.P.C. design studio, and he kept asking how he could start something in that fashion industry. This is when we all advised him to start that something in France, and keep quiet about fashion noise while learning about it. Then later, as we became friends, he invited me to his recording studio at Hotel Meurice. At the time he was working with Jay-Z on an album, which wasn’t already named. (Watch the Throne) Over the months, we kept hanging out and finally came up with the idea of doing a small capsule collection of clothes together. ‘Small’ meaning that this capsule collection consists of a jean, a hoodie and a T-Shirt. Those are precious to me and to Kanye too, because it took time and thoughts to get there.”
So if you weren’t content with rocking your Air Yeezys while simultaneously bumpin’ Yeezus, this is the fashion fix you’ve been waiting for.
“Expressing women’s notions, desires and experiences through fashion’.. is what Dimepiece’s Summer 2013 collection is all about.
The title Woman-Hood, was the perfect name for the bold mix of sporty , sexy and playful pieces. Its such an inspiration to see women in street wear representing us in such a positive way! Kudos to Ashley and Laura for creating this LA based collection. On the next page take a look at the apparel and accessories collection launching May 28, 2013. We can’t wait! Xx Quiana
