Pairing graphic patterns and bold color choices reminiscent of African wax prints, she takes relatively common silhouettes (i.e. a classic button up shirt, leggings, a romper) and revitalizes them in a way that screams SUMMER! (or at least respectfully declares it. Loudly.)
I’m in chromatic love with all of them! However, if I had to pick a favorite, I would veer towards the Winie print. You know, the one that looks like a composition notebook. Not only is it black and white (my usual color combo go-to’s), but it’s a definite nod to grammar school nostalgia. Now you can relive the innocent good ol’ days. But without the braces.
Don’t double check your calendars. It’s not December 31st, but the countdown has begun in Times Square. The most anticipated H&M Grand Opening for it’s 12th Manhattan location is literally minutes away. (GPS info for those glued to their phones: 4 Times Square between West 42nd and 43rd streets to be exact.) For those brave souls who are planning on venturing out in this suddenly December-esque degree weather to experience the multi-collab event, I salute you.
Not that you won’t be rewarded handsomely for waiting for-evv-verr just to get on the other side of those double doors. Here’s a short list of what you can expect if you dare to brave the icy NYC wind gusts and 30 degree temps (and possibly faint from sensory overload?) for a chance to snag some much blogged-about Isabel Marant goodies…or at least snap a pic of them:
1: Three Words — Twenty. Four. Hours. You heard right. For the launch, the T.S. locale will be open the ENTIRE DAY starting at 12:01…and oh, did I mention Mother Monster will be in da HAUS? If you are one of the 20 lucky Golden Ticket recipients, you will actually get to have a “meet and greet” with the music icon. It just got real. (The artist’s latest album, ARTPOP, will also be sold in store. Get ready to hear Applause and Do What U Want on a constant loop. (I’m guess-timating, but don’t count that idea out!)
2. The first lucky 1,000 customers will get Fashion Access Passes, a.k.a. (possible) gift cards that willrange from $10 (a tank top) to $1000 (complete fall/winter shopping spree!) on top of other giveaways that will be announced every hour. If there was ever a time to rock a fanny pack (for necessity of course) then this event is it.
3. The 42,000 square foot fashion playground will be equipped with a charging station, (because you know your phone will need more juice after posting all those selfies and hashtags) iPads, as well as interactive mannequins. And if you’ve found the perfect pieces in the fitting room but LOATHE the lines, you will be able to pay for your items with their new “Try and Buy” feature. Welcome to the future.
4. Get ready to strut yo’ stuff on the virtual catwalk: there will be a digital runway on hand that projects you in your fave ensembles to the world on the huge LED screen that faces the heart of Times Square. Get ready for your closeup! (and possible hashtags. That charging station idea sounds better and better, right?)
5. Isabel Marant — the name that’s been blogged about since news first leaked of the mega-collab — will officially debut to the public FIRST at 42nd st before anyone else can, worldwide. So make sure you have a solid game plan for getting those $199 gray sequin pants that you already paired with all of your holiday nightlife ensembles in your head. I guarantee there will be someone else clawing for those same pantalones, and she ain’t going home without them.
So enjoy the bumping music, futuristic fixtures and displays, and most of all the great deals. Just try to show some class and restraint…but if you see homegirl hesitate for even a second on those pants…then all bets are off!
On July 14th, clothing label A.P.C. is dropping a collab capsule collection with Kanye (say that 3 times fast!) Mr. West was more than eager to soak up all the tricks of the fashion trade from A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou, but the head of the French clothing label admits — prior to the upcoming marriage of the fashion minds — that he had no idea who Kanye was, let alone what he did for a living…sacre bleu!
“Over two years ago, a visitor to the A.P.C. studio was announced to me as ‘KENNY.’ … The guy talks, talks and talks and I was having a good time listening. He had nice manners and spoke about losing his mother in a surgery accident, about losing his girlfriend too, and about how difficult doing the right thing in fashion was. After a while, I was curious to know what this gentleman was currently doing in his life. I simply asked him: ‘May I know what your trade is, sir?’ He took his shades down, so that finally I could see his eyes, and answered me: ‘I am a hip hop artist.’ “
“At some point my crew informed me that his name was West, Kanye West. I introduced him to the A.P.C. design studio, and he kept asking how he could start something in that fashion industry. This is when we all advised him to start that something in France, and keep quiet about fashion noise while learning about it. Then later, as we became friends, he invited me to his recording studio at Hotel Meurice. At the time he was working with Jay-Z on an album, which wasn’t already named. (Watch the Throne) Over the months, we kept hanging out and finally came up with the idea of doing a small capsule collection of clothes together. ‘Small’ meaning that this capsule collection consists of a jean, a hoodie and a T-Shirt. Those are precious to me and to Kanye too, because it took time and thoughts to get there.”
So if you weren’t content with rocking your Air Yeezys while simultaneously bumpin’ Yeezus, this is the fashion fix you’ve been waiting for.
